Scholarships

Chief Bruce Anderson Scholarship

In April 1995, the Association dedicated two (2) scholarships to the memory of Chief Bruce Anderson. The scholarships are now presented to four (4) graduating Darien High School students to help support their efforts towards higher education and will be awarded in Chief Anderson’s name. The scholarships are $500 each.

Sergeant Joseph Santore Memorial Scholarship

At a regular meeting on April 1, 1980, a scholarship was created in memory of Sergeant Joseph Santore. Per the meeting minutes: “In memory of the late Sgt. Joseph Santore a scholarship will be presented to any child of a member of the Darien Police Association (such member being active and in good standing), to be awarded for the child’s first year of college upon application to the Darien Police Association. The application shall include proof of admission to an accredited college or university. The amount of the scholarship shall be five-hundred (500) dollars and shall be given under the name ‘Sgt. Joseph Santore Memorial Scholarship.”

The current scholarship value has since been increased to three thousand ($3,000) dollars per student. (Amended September 1, 2015)

Officer Kenneth Bateman Memorial Scholarship

The Officer Kenneth Bateman Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Officer Kenneth Bateman. The scholarship funds are maintained in an account separate from Association accounts. The recipient(s) is/are chosen by Mrs. Barbara Bateman.

Three scholarships will be awarded to children of Darien Police Officers, each in the amount of $1000.00; one to a child in grades K-12; and two to young adults attending college. Only children enrolled in parochial or private schools grades K-12 are eligible to apply for this scholarship. All college students in good standing enrolled in any college are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to undergraduate students. The scholarship will not be granted to the same child two years consecutively.
